282O you who believe, when you contract a debt with one another for a fixed term, write it down. Let a scribe write it between you faithfully. Let the scribe not refuse to write as Allah has taught him; let him write. Let the debtor dictate, and let him fear Allah, his Lord, and not diminish anything from it. If the debtor is not of sound mind, or is weak, or is himself unable to dictate, let his guardian dictate faithfully on his behalf. And call two witnesses from among your men. If two men are not available, then take one man and two women from among witnesses you approve of, so that if one of them forgets, the other can remind her. Let the witnesses not refuse when they are called. Do not be reluctant to write down the debt, whether small or large, along with its term. This is more just in Allah's sight, more reliable as testimony, and more suitable for keeping you from doubt. However, if it is a cash transaction you conduct on the spot between yourselves, there is no sin on you in not writing it down. And take witnesses when you buy and sell. Let neither the scribe nor the witness be harmed. If you do cause harm, that is surely a deviation on your part. Be accountable to Allah. Allah is teaching you. Allah knows all things.
