Al-Baqarah 233

English Translation

233Mothers nurse their children for two full years, for the father who wishes the nursing to be completed. The father to whom the child belongs is obliged to provide for the mothers' food and clothing in a fitting manner. No one is burdened beyond their capacity. Neither the mother nor the father to whom the child belongs should be made to suffer harm on account of the child! The same duty falls upon the heir. If the mother and father wish to wean the child by mutual consultation and agreement, there is no sin on either of them. If you wish to have your children nursed (by a wet nurse), there is no sin on you, provided you pay the wage you offer in a customary manner. Be mindful of Allah, and know well that Allah sees what you do.
