بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّح۪يمِ
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most MercifulVerses 234–235
2 versesAl-Baqarah 235
وَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ ف۪يمَا عَرَّضْتُمْ بِه۪ مِنْ خِطْبَةِ النِّسَٓاءِ اَوْ اَكْنَنْتُمْ ف۪ٓي اَنْفُسِكُمْۜ عَلِمَ اللّٰهُ اَنَّكُمْ سَتَذْكُرُونَهُنَّ وَلٰكِنْ لَا تُوَاعِدُوهُنَّ سِرًّا اِلَّٓا اَنْ تَقُولُوا قَوْلًا مَعْرُوفًاۜ وَلَا تَعْزِمُوا عُقْدَةَ النِّكَاحِ حَتّٰى يَبْلُغَ الْكِتَابُ اَجَلَهُۜ وَاعْلَمُٓوا اَنَّ اللّٰهَ يَعْلَمُ مَا ف۪ٓي اَنْفُسِكُمْ فَاحْذَرُوهُۚ وَاعْلَمُٓوا اَنَّ اللّٰهَ غَفُورٌ حَل۪يمٌ۟ ٢٣٥
Mushaf
Transliteration
235Velâ cünâḥa ʿaleyküm fîmâ ʿarraḍtüm bihî min ḫiṭbeti-nnisâi ev eknentüm fî enfüsiküm. ʿalime-llâhü enneküm seteẕkürûnehünne velâkil lâ tüvâʿidûhünne sirran illâ en teḳûlû ḳavlem maʿrûfâ. velâ taʿzimû ʿuḳdete-nnikâḥi ḥattâ yeblüga-lkitâbü eceleh. vaʿlemû enne-llâhe yaʿlemü mâ fî enfüsiküm faḥẕerûh. vaʿlemû enne-llâhe gafûrun ḥalîm.
English Translation
235There is no sin on you in making an indirect proposal of marriage to such women, or in keeping the intention to marry them within yourselves. Allah knows that you will tell them what you have in mind. But do not make secret agreements with them, except in lawful words. Do not proceed to the marriage contract until the term has ended. Know that Allah knows what is within you, so be wary of Him. Know well that Allah is forgiving and does not hasten to punish.
