بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّح۪يمِ
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most MercifulVerses 178–179

يَٓا اَيُّهَا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْقِصَاصُ فِي الْقَتْلٰىۜ اَلْحُرُّ بِالْحُرِّ وَالْعَبْدُ بِالْعَبْدِ وَالْاُنْثٰى بِالْاُنْثٰىۜ فَمَنْ عُفِيَ لَهُ مِنْ اَخ۪يهِ شَيْءٌ فَاتِّبَاعٌ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَاَدَٓاءٌ اِلَيْهِ بِاِحْسَانٍۜ ذٰلِكَ تَخْف۪يفٌ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ وَرَحْمَةٌۜ فَمَنِ اعْتَدٰى بَعْدَ ذٰلِكَ فَلَهُ عَذَابٌ اَل۪يمٌ ١٧٨
Mushaf
Transliteration
178Yâ eyyühe-lleẕîne âmenû kütibe ʿaleykümü-lḳiṣâṣu fi-lḳatlâ. elḥurru bilḥurri velʿabdü bilʿabdi velʾünŝâ bilʾünŝâ. femen ʿufiye lehû min eḫîhi şeyʾün fettibâʿum bilmaʿrûfi veedâün ileyhi biiḥsân. ẕâlike taḫfîfüm mir rabbiküm veraḥmetün. femeni-ʿtedâ baʿde ẕâlike felehû ʿaẕâbün elîm.
English Translation
178O you who believe! Just retribution in cases of murder has been prescribed for you: the free for the free, the slave for the slave, the woman for the woman. If anyone is in some way pardoned by his brother, this should be carried out in a reasonable manner, and the compensation should be paid to the one who pardons in a good manner. This is an alleviation and a mercy from your Lord. Whoever transgresses after this will have a painful punishment.
