Al-Baqarah 102

102They followed the lies that people who had become devils put forward against the kingdom of Solomon. Yet Solomon did not become a disbeliever by practicing magic and sorcery; rather, those deceitful devils who taught people magic and sorcery became disbelievers. Contrary to what they claimed, nothing was sent down to the two rulers/kings in Babylon, Harut and Marut. Those two would say mockingly to the people they taught magic, "We have become addicted to magic/sorcery; don't you become disbelievers." These people with the nature of devils learned sorcery from them and used it only to separate husband and wife. Yet the truth was that the sorcerers could harm no one except by Allah's permission. They were learning things that harmed them and brought them no benefit. They certainly knew that those who profit in this way will have no share in the Hereafter. How wretched is the gain they obtained by selling their own values! If only they had known.
