بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّح۪يمِ

2 versesAl-Baqarah 237
وَاِنْ طَلَّقْتُمُوهُنَّ مِنْ قَبْلِ اَنْ تَمَسُّوهُنَّ وَقَدْ فَرَضْتُمْ لَهُنَّ فَر۪يضَةً فَنِصْفُ مَا فَرَضْتُمْ اِلَّٓا اَنْ يَعْفُونَ اَوْ يَعْفُوَا الَّذ۪ي بِيَدِه۪ عُقْدَةُ النِّكَاحِۜ وَاَنْ تَعْفُٓوا اَقْرَبُ لِلتَّقْوٰىۜ وَلَا تَنْسَوُا الْفَضْلَ بَيْنَكُمْۜ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَص۪يرٌ ٢٣٧
Mushaf
Transliteration
237Vein ṭallaḳtümûhünne min ḳabli en temessûhünne veḳad feraḍtüm lehünne ferîḍaten feniṣfü mâ feraḍtüm illâ ey yaʿfûne ev yaʿfüve-lleẕî biyedihî ʿuḳdetü-nnikâḥ. veen taʿfû aḳrabü littaḳvâ. velâ tensevu-lfaḍle beyneküm. inne-llâhe bimâ taʿmelûne beṣîr.
English Translation
237If you divorce them before touching them but after having set their mahr, give them half of the mahr you set, unless they themselves, or the one in whose hand is the marriage contract, forgo it. Your forgoing the whole mahr is closer to taqwa (God-consciousness). Surely Allah fully sees what you do.
