بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّح۪يمِ
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most MercifulVerse 92
1 verseAn-Nisa 92
وَمَا كَانَ لِمُؤْمِنٍ اَنْ يَقْتُلَ مُؤْمِنًا اِلَّا خَطَـًٔاۚ وَمَنْ قَتَلَ مُؤْمِنًا خَطَـًٔا فَتَحْر۪يرُ رَقَبَةٍ مُؤْمِنَةٍ وَدِيَةٌ مُسَلَّمَةٌ اِلٰٓى اَهْلِه۪ٓ اِلَّٓا اَنْ يَصَّدَّقُواۜ فَاِنْ كَانَ مِنْ قَوْمٍ عَدُوٍّ لَكُمْ وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَتَحْر۪يرُ رَقَبَةٍ مُؤْمِنَةٍۜ وَاِنْ كَانَ مِنْ قَوْمٍ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَهُمْ م۪يثَاقٌ فَدِيَةٌ مُسَلَّمَةٌ اِلٰٓى اَهْلِه۪ وَتَحْر۪يرُ رَقَبَةٍ مُؤْمِنَةٍۚ فَمَنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ فَصِيَامُ شَهْرَيْنِ مُتَتَابِعَيْنِۘ تَوْبَةً مِنَ اللّٰهِۜ وَكَانَ اللّٰهُ عَل۪يمًا حَك۪يمًا ٩٢
Mushaf
Transliteration
92Vemâ kâne limüʾminin ey yaḳtüle müʾminen illâ ḫaṭaâ. vemen ḳatele müʾminen ḫaṭaen fetaḥrîru raḳabetim müʾminetiv vediyetüm müsellemetün ilâ ehlihî illâ ey yeṣṣaddeḳû. fein kâne min ḳavmin ʿadüvvil leküm vehüve müʾminün fetaḥrîru raḳabetim müʾmineh. vein kâne min ḳavmim beyneküm vebeynehüm mîŝâḳun fediyetüm müsellemetün ilâ ehlihî vetaḥrîru raḳabetim müʾmineh. femel lem yecid feṣiyâmü şehrayni mütetâbiʿayn. tevbetem mine-llâh. vekâne-llâhü ʿalîmen ḥakîmâ.
English Translation
92A believer never has the right to kill another believer—unless it is by mistake. If someone kills a believer by mistake, his penalty is to free a believing slave and to pay diya/blood money, handed over to the family of the one killed. If they forgo the diya, the killer is released from paying it. If the one killed was a believer but from a people hostile to you, then the penalty is only freeing a believing slave. If he was from a people with whom you have a treaty, it is diya handed over to the family of the one killed and freeing a believing slave. But whoever cannot find the means for this must fast two consecutive months, so that his repentance may be accepted by Allah. For Allah knows all things and decides rightly.
