Al-Ma'idah 89

English Translation

89Allah does not hold you responsible for oaths you swear thoughtlessly, but He does hold you responsible for oaths you swear deliberately. The expiation (kaffara) for breaking such an oath is to feed ten poor people with the average of what you feed your own families, or to clothe them, or to set a slave free. Whoever cannot afford to do these must fast for three days. This is the expiation for the oaths you break. So be true to your oaths. Thus does Allah explain His verses to you, so that you may be grateful.
