Surah Al-Mursalat: Thematic English Translation (Mustafa Çevik)

By the verses of Allah, which He sends one after another, which remove what is false and establish and spread what is right, which separate truth from falsehood, and which contain counsel and warnings, and by the angels who bring them: the Last Hour promised to you will surely come.

When that Day comes, the stars will go out, the sky will split open, and the mountains will be ground to dust and scattered. The prophets, too, will be gathered together to bear witness concerning their communities. How could you know what kind of day that Day is, and when it will come? All this will take place on the Day of Reckoning, after the Last Hour. Surely many of you will understand the importance of the Day of Reckoning, of which you have been warned, only on that Day.

Woe on that Day to those who, although they were warned in their worldly lives that they would face this truth, paid no heed and called it a lie, and who lived their lives according to their own whims, covering up the truth that Allah is Lord and God...!

Before them, too, We destroyed those who denied the truth and dismissed it, and We will bring the same fate upon their followers who come after them. Woe on that Day to those who turn away from Allah’s call and deserve punishment.

We began your creation from a simple fluid, protected you in your mother’s womb for a period We had determined beforehand, developed you, and endowed you with blessings. We accomplished all of this by Our knowledge and power. Woe on the Day of Resurrection to those who, despite witnessing this, deny the way of life that is Allah’s call.

We arranged the earth as a gathering place for your living and your dead. We placed on it firm, unshakable mountains and created fresh water for you to drink. Woe on that Day to the one who, despite benefiting from this perfect order, turns away from the order that Allah offers the human being.

On the Day of Resurrection, those who did not accept Allah’s call in their worldly lives and lived taking gods other than Allah will be told, “As the price of calling it a lie despite being warned, go on, then, march toward that Hell you see in the distance, divided into three, from which suffocating black smoke rises.”

Woe on that Day to those who did not use their reason, although they had been warned of a Hell that has no shade to protect from the fire and that throws off sparks turned into glowing embers like palm-tree logs.

On the Day of Resurrection, those who rejected the call the prophets made in Allah’s name and did not believe will be told, “Today is the day of paying the price,” and they will not be allowed even to speak to ask for forgiveness... Woe to them on that Day.

That Day is the day on which all those who have come and gone, who associated partners with Allah and who disbelieved, are gathered together. On that Day they will be addressed thus: “Go on, then, put forth all your strength to escape this punishment you deserve. Will it be of any use?” Woe on that Day to those who call the truths lies.

As for those who believed in the Allah-centered system of life to which they were invited and which is the reason for their creation, and strove with all their strength to live by it, Allah will reward them with a life in which they will be in the shade of Paradise, beside springs, amid every kind of blessing they desire, and they will be told, “These are your Lord’s generous gift in return for your deeds in your worldly life.” Thus do We reward Our sincere servants who believe and do righteous deeds. Woe on that Day to those who do not believe these truths and call them lies.

O you who turn away from the call to the truth! Go on, then, as people who have earned Hell, benefit from the blessings of worldly life and enjoy yourselves a while longer. Woe on that Day to those who persist in wrong despite so many warnings.

When they were told in the world, “Come, bow to Allah’s call and submit,” they would not consent to it. Woe on that Day to those who would not consent.

Then in what other word (hadith), besides the verses Allah has made known through the Quran, will these people who associate partners with Allah and these disbelievers believe?
