English Translation
It is He who drove out of their homes, at the first banishment, those of the People of the Book who disbelieved/broke the treaty. You never thought they would leave their homes. And they thought their fortresses would protect them from Allah. But Allah struck them from where they did not expect and cast fear into their hearts, so that they were destroying and laying waste their own homes, on the one side with their own hands and on the other with the hands of the believers. So take a lesson from this, O you who have understanding!
Had Allah not ordained banishment for them, He would have punished them in this world in some other way. And in the Hereafter the punishment of the Fire awaits them.
This is because they defied His Messenger, who conveys Allah's messages. Whoever defies Allah, let him know well that Allah's punishment is very severe.

English Translation
Whatever of their date palms you cut down or left standing on their roots, it was only by Allah's leave; the purpose was to bring ruin upon the transgressors who had strayed from the path and did not keep their word.
You spurred neither horse nor camel to obtain the spoils taken without fighting that Allah gave to His Messenger from their property. But Allah sets His messengers over whoever deserves it. For Allah has power over all things.
The spoils that Allah has given to His Messenger from the property of the people of towns taken without fighting belong by right to Allah, His Messenger, his relatives, the orphans, the poor, and stranded travelers. This is so that wealth does not become a means of power and authority that merely circulates among the rich among you. So take whatever the Messenger gives you of these spoils, and refrain from asking for what he does not give. Guard yourselves against defying Allah, for Allah's punishment is very severe.
The poor emigrants (muhajirun), who were driven out of their homes and lands and stripped of their wealth and property for this cause, seeking Allah's grace and good pleasure and helping Allah's religion and His Messenger who conveys Allah's messages, also have a right to these spoils. For they are sincere in their faith.
The believers who made Medina their home before the emigrants, who engraved faith in their hearts and love the believers who emigrated to them, feel no envy in their hearts over the spoils given to the emigrants; they even prefer them over themselves, though they themselves be in need. Those who purify their souls of greed and stinginess, it is they who will attain salvation and reach what they hope for.

Do you see these people who spread hypocrisy around? They say to their allies among the People of the Book, who are disbelievers like themselves: —If you are driven out of your homeland, we will certainly go out with you. We will never submit to anyone in matters against you. If you go to war, we will certainly help you. Allah is witness that all of them are lying.
Indeed, if those were driven out of their homes, these would not go out with them; and if war were waged against them, they would not help them either. Even if they tried to help, they would turn their backs and flee as soon as things got hard. And so those who relied on them would be left without help.

Indeed, you strike more fear into their hearts than Allah does. That is because they are a people who cannot grasp Allah's power and majesty.
They dare not come together and face you in pitched battle; they can fight only from within strong fortresses or from behind walls. Among themselves there are fierce disagreements. You think them united, but they are a hollow crowd whose hearts beat for separate aims. That is because they are a people who do not use their reason.
Their end will be just like that of their other allies who, a short while before them, suffered the penalty for what they did. For them too there is a painful punishment.
