Verses 1–14

O Prophet! Say: It has been revealed to me that some individuals unknown to us, after listening to the Quran being recited, went back to their own people and said: “We have listened to a wondrous Quran of extraordinary beauty, which invites the human being to what is right, to the purpose of his creation, and we have believed in what we heard. From now on we will never associate any partner with our Lord, nor take any god other than Him. Our Lord has taken neither a spouse nor a child, contrary to what the followers of Satan among us have invented. Most exalted is the majesty of our Lord. Before this we had been told that some people were in contact with the jinn, invisible creatures of a different nature; we had been told that they could receive news of the unseen from them, and taught that their help could be sought. Nor did we ever believe that humans and jinn would invent lies about Allah and slander Him; but from the Quran we have now listened to, we have learned that the reality is otherwise.

Before, we did not believe either that Allah would raise anyone to life again after death. Had Allah not sent Muhammad as a prophet and made these truths known, we would still not have learned them.

Moreover, just as we had been led to believe, we used to look to the sky for help and wait for news from it. Now we have learned that it is not possible to receive news from there, and, what is more, that the fire of Hell will relentlessly pursue those who believe in such things. So it is that the verses of this Quran, with their light, wipe out such baseless, dark beliefs.

Among us there are those who long to live by what is right and good, and there are also wrongdoers who put their worldly interests above everything and follow them without asking whether a thing is right or wrong. Until we listened to the Quran, we did not know what our Lord intended for those living this way on earth, or what His judgment on them would be.

Now we have understood very well that no one who oversteps the limits Allah has set can escape from Allah and get away.

When we listened to the Quran and heard the truth, we believed in what we heard. Whoever believes in his Lord and trusts in Him does not fear that any harm will be done to him, or that he will be wronged, without Allah’s leave.

Among us there are those who believe in what the Quran we have listened to invites them to and submit to their Lord, and there are also those who do not accept the call and persist in associating partners with Allah!”

Verses 15–17

O Prophet! If those who cover up the truth and deny it do not repent and return to what is right, they will be fuel for Hell. If they turn to living the Allah-centered life to which they are invited, We will grant them abundant blessings through the rain We send down from the sky. Whoever turns away from what he is invited to through the Quran, Allah will drag him into a severe punishment.

Verses 18–19

In the mosques you build for the worship of Allah, and in other places too, do not seek help from those you have taken as lords and gods alongside Allah, nor take refuge in them, pray to them, or worship them. Whenever a servant of Allah invites people to obey Allah alone, those who associate partners with Allah at once band together as one body and fall upon him.

Say: “If I take other lords and gods besides Allah, no one can protect me from the punishment that comes from Allah, nor will I find any place of refuge.

My duty is to invite you to live by the system of life that is the reason for your creation. Now let it be well known that whoever disobeys and rebels against Allah and His Messenger will be cast into the fire of Hell, to remain in it forever.

When that time comes, those who stubbornly persist in associating partners with Allah will see and understand that those from whom they expected help are of no use at all, and that their numbers count for nothing.”

Verses 26–28

Allah alone knows the future and what is hidden (the unseen), and He discloses it to no one. Only what needs to be known does He convey to His prophets. And the prophets, in turn, convey what Allah has made known, and that He is aware of everything and has recorded everything.
