بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّح۪يمِ
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most MercifulVerses 20–21
2 versesAl-Hadid 20
اِعْلَمُٓوا اَنَّمَا الْحَيٰوةُ الدُّنْيَا لَعِبٌ وَلَهْوٌ وَز۪ينَةٌ وَتَفَاخُرٌ بَيْنَكُمْ وَتَكَاثُرٌ فِي الْاَمْوَالِ وَالْاَوْلَادِۜ كَمَثَلِ غَيْثٍ اَعْجَبَ الْكُفَّارَ نَبَاتُهُ ثُمَّ يَه۪يجُ فَتَرٰيهُ مُصْفَرًّا ثُمَّ يَكُونُ حُطَامًاۜ وَفِي الْاٰخِرَةِ عَذَابٌ شَد۪يدٌۙ وَمَغْفِرَةٌ مِنَ اللّٰهِ وَرِضْوَانٌۜ وَمَا الْحَيٰوةُ الدُّنْيَٓا اِلَّا مَتَاعُ الْغُرُورِ ٢٠
Mushaf
Transliteration
20İʿlemû enneme-lḥayâtü-ddünyâ leʿibüv velehvüv vezînetüv vetefâḫurum beyneküm vetekâŝürun fi-lʾemvâli velʾevlâd. kemeŝeli gayŝin aʿcebe-lküffâra nebâtühû ŝümme yehîcü feterâhü muṣferran ŝümme yekûnü ḥuṭâmâ. vefi-lʾâḫirati ʿaẕâbün şedîdüv vemagfiratüm mine-llâhi veriḍvân. veme-lḥayâtü-ddünyâ illâ metâʿu-lgurûr.
English Translation
20Know that the life of this world is nothing but play, amusement, adornment and display, boasting to one another, and the desire and greed to have more wealth, property, and children. This worldly life is like rain whose plants delight the farmers. Then, before you know it, they have turned yellow and withered, and become dry grass and straw. In the Hereafter there is either severe punishment, or forgiveness and good pleasure from Allah. Yes, the life of this world is nothing but a deceptive and passing pleasure.
