Verses 1–9
By the sky, filled with clusters of stars; by the Resurrection and the Day of Reckoning, which will surely come; and by those who will bear witness against one another on that Day: the wrongdoers who tortured to death those who believed in Allah’s call by throwing them into pits in which they had lit fires, and those who stood by and watched, will also bear witness against one another.
The believers were thrown into the pit of fire because they said, “We live only by the divine system and morality to which Allah invites us, and we serve Him alone.” And Allah is witness to what was done to them.
The authority to judge in the heavens and on earth belongs to Allah alone.

Verses 10–11
Those who persecute and torture the men and women who believe in Allah’s call, and then do not repent in remorse, turn to Allah, and fulfill their responsibilities, are awaited in Hell by the punishment of a blazing fire.
But those who believe in the call and fulfill what it requires will be rewarded with the blessings of Paradise.

Verses 17–22
O Prophet! You had also warned those who stubbornly turn away from Allah’s call with the punishment that befell Pharaoh and the people of Thamud. Despite this, they do not want to understand that Allah has encompassed them on every side. Yet through the divine call they reject, they are being called to liberation from servitude to fellow human beings and to a life of honor, dignity, freedom, and happiness. The Quran, the book of the divine system to which they are being called, is under Allah’s protection.
