Verses 1–10

When the heavens, which yield to their Lord’s command and are rolled up with the Last Hour, are split open again for a new creation on the Day of Reckoning, and when the earth, by its Lord’s command, casts out what is within it and is made perfectly flat, then the human being too will see the recompense for his striving in worldly life. On That Day those who in their worldly lives believed in the system of life that is Allah’s call and fulfilled what their faith required will be given their records of deeds from their right side, and their reckoning will be very easy; and then they will go joyfully to those who lived as they did and join them.

Verses 11–15

But those who lived their worldly lives turning away from Allah’s call will be given their records of deeds from their left side. When such people meet the punishment of Hell they have deserved, they will cry out, longing to perish and be gone, but in vain... Their cries will be of no use to them at all, and they will be cast into the blazing Fire.

Though they were warned, they did not believe at all that they would be returned to their Lord and give account; they laughed and amused themselves among people like themselves, and paid no heed to the warnings and the call. Yet Allah, your Lord, saw and knew what they were doing.

Verses 16–22

By the hour of dawn, by all that the darkness of night covers and enfolds, by the moon at its full: you, O people, will be carried from one state to another, from your worldly life to the life of the Hereafter.

When the truth has been made known so plainly, how can some people take other gods alongside Allah, turn away from His call, and prefer to associate partners with Him? And how is it that, when the Quran is recited to them, instead of showing their submission and prostrating themselves before Allah, their Lord, they call the Quran a lie?

Verses 23–24

Allah knows full well what enmity those who have made denial of the truth their nature harbor in their hearts against a system of life whose limits Allah has set.

O Prophet! Give them tidings that a most severe punishment has been prepared for them in Hell.
